Washington slaps $100 fee on EVs

Nicholas Maronese -- The state of Washington plans to stick electric car owners with a $100 annual fee starting next year to compensate for the gas taxes they're no longer paying.

EVs have to pay their fair share for space on the highways and to cover their wear and tear in the pavement. Someday everyone may pay by total miles driven with a higher fee for heavier vehicles that tear up the highways and bridges more quickly. Then we wouldn't need a fuel tax per gallon, just a miles driven and a weight factor. You send a monthly check to the Motor Vehicle Department based on how far you traveled and how much your loaded vehicle weighed and how many wheels it had.

Stop sitting back while they increase that authority. Next we can tax the horse and buggys/bike/runners/walkers and wheelchairs that use the roads without paying gas tax???
