Buzz Lightyear to the rescue.

After more than a year of searching for a new marketing theme, Chevrolet says it has landed the right person to deliver its message: comedian Tim Allen, also known as "The Santa Clause," Tim Taylor from "Home Improvement" and, of course, Buzz.

The first real look at Chevrolet's future ad plans comes Tuesday, as the brand debuts commercials for its new Chevrolet Cruze compact car.

GM is aiming the Cruze at 20-somethings and empty nesters. And both groups may recognize his voice, although possibly because of different gigs.

Many may also recognize Allen's voice from the "Pure Michigan" commercials touting the state he called home as

They need a comedian to keep everyone laughing at their products. I guess Obama's Goverment Motors can come up with any thing else. Mein Fuhrer has now required everyone to buy the "People's Car". As much as I like Tim Allen, don't forget he did 18months in a Co. prison for a drug conviction. What better person to represent Obama and GM. Maybe they can drop an I beam on Obama's Escalade.

I've always pictured Tim Allen as a Ford man since he was with RRR Racing and drove competitively in Ford Mustangs. My, how times have changed.

I liked seeing Howie Long as spokesman. Tim Allen... I think won't be taken seriously enough. Imagine Robin Williams as spokesman and you get the idea.

Gee, just what I want. Tim the Toolman Taylor selling cars. He is the perfect spokesman for Government Motors. They cannot run a company right, so they go to Al (in this case the taxpayer) to fix their problems then say they did it themselves

GM needs to display sincerity and humility. If Tim Allen can make us believe them...O.K!

Maybe he can fix the ads on here. I was just offered the lowest price on a used 2006 Chevy Cruze. Sorry, folks, the closest thing GM had at that time was the disgusting little Cobalt.

Some ads get into the collective consciousness.

Almost anything is an improvement over Ed Whitacre for advertising delivery, but he is staying a while as Executive Chairman while stepping down as CEO.

Same deal they have at Ford with Alan Mulally as CEO and Billy Ford as Executive Chairman. That said, Billy Ford has his last name inside the Blue Oval and he went with only a token salary for a while.

Good move on GM's part. Tim Allen has 'been around the block' ... and 'the Yard'. People relate to his experiences.
