Tapping Into the Global Energy Boom

Barrons -- There is a treasure trove of oil and gas buried deep at sea, and FMC Technologies is likely to be a primary beneficiary in the years ahead.

The Houston-based company (ticker: FTI) helps energy exploration companies extract commodities from North American soil and from deep-sea projects around the world. The shares, at a recent $42.97, have slid 22% from their 52-week high. The market is focused on weakness in FMC's domestic business, and isn't giving the company enough credit for growth from its subsea operations, which account for roughly two-thirds of revenue.

FMC is the biggest player in subsea "trees" -- pipes and valves that control production of a deepwater well. With signs that orders are picking up, and significant deepwater equipment demand expected in the next several years, FM
