'Fracking' endangers pursuit of clean energy

Central Florida Future -- Last Wednesday, Josh Fox, the director of the documentary Gasland, was arrested during a House meeting with the EPA on the issue of contaminated drinking water due to a natural gas extraction process known as hydraulic fracturing."

Fox said in a statement, "I was not expecting to be arrested for practicing journalism. Today's hearing in the House Energy and Environment subcommittee was called to examine EPA's findings that hydraulic fracturing fluids contaminated groundwater in the town of Pavillion, Wyoming."

The residents of Pavillion have maintained since 2008 that fracking has contaminated their water supply.

Fracking is a toxic extraction process set up in the name of progress that is hurting the health of many Americans.

If fracking is indeed proven to alter/contaminate water sources, it would be prudent to stop using it. It's already been suspected of being the cause of numerous minor earthquakes in Arkansas last year.

They throw money after any scam that comes their way instead of doing their homework and crunching the numbers. They should put the money towards something that at least has a chance of seeing the light of day instead of the scam du jour.

"Despite popular misunderstanding the right to freedom of the press guaranteed by the first amendment is not very different from the right to freedom of speech. It allows an individual to express themselves through publication and dissemination. It is part of the constitutional protection of freedom of expression. It does not afford members of the media any special rights or privileges not afforded to citizens in general." (Cornell University Law School)

Those who live on the poisoned land can't leave or live on their land, so the only hope they have is for the government to supply them water, or abandon the land and move to a public park, as long as they don't try to put up a tent, then the police will gas a beat them. Of course, if they resist being arrested, they could live in prison. If we don't get that gas, there are alternatives that may be a bit more expensive. If we poison the water, the only alternative is to leave or die.

Even the EPA says that their Pavillion report does not condemn fracing. Josh Fox is a joke anyway, his movie was a joke and has been thouroughly debunked.

The people of the United States of America deserve better. The fact of the matter is that supporters of hydraulic fracturing will go to any lengths to debunk the results of the EPA's investigation in order to continue this process -- a process they believe is beneficial to America and will lessen our dependence on foreign oil.
