Ethanol Program Still A Go

KIMT TV -- Mason City, Iowa - The Obama administration is announcing it will be supporting our nation's ethanol program.

And that's good news for local farmers.

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack is happy to report that the white house is supporting ethanol programs - despite the high price of supply.

With last year's drought, the price of corn put a temporary suspension on production, but now it's a new year.

And according to Rick Pleggenkuhle at the Iowa State Extension Office, that gives area farmers some new hope.

“As far as the ethanol producers it is good news for them because it gives them a goal to shoot towards for that minimum requirement that we have to produce in the United States,” said Pleggenkuhle.

42% of this year's corn crop will go toward making the fuel.

They can plant 3 times or more in the same acreage because it can be jammed in. All the farmers around here grow it. and it is simply a lazy man's farming with low maintenance and BIG profit.

I have seen too many times were it eats away at the various components in engines. We also then have to pay more to treat the fuel so it doesn't start to separate out in the gas tank.

People eat field corn, of course, because it is an ingredient in many items at the grocery store. That said, ethanol in fuel is a lose-lose-lose situation. As many here have noted, it decreases MPG, increases damage to fuel-system components, and increases the cost of food. Corn farmers and ethanol producers are the only winners in this nonsense.
