Enbridge says work on new pipeline delayed until spring

Detroit Free Press -- GRIFFITH, Ind. -- The operator of an oil pipeline that caused a large spill in Michigan expects it will be at least May before work begins to replace a 60-mile section of that pipeline in northern Indiana.

Enbridge Energy had planned to finish the section from its facility in the Lake County town of Griffith into Michigan by the end of this year, but its plans were delayed because of opposition, project director Thomas Hodge told the Times of Munster for an article Monday

The company now expects the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and other agencies to issue permits for the project in the spring, Hodge said. Contractors would begin work in May and break ground in June.

“By the first of October, we hope to have things ready to deactivate the existing line,” Hodge said.

President Barack Obama won re-election by a significant margin. He is your president as well as mine and will be for the next 4 years. Now is the time to stop the childish, disparaging word games with his name and pay respect to the Office of the President, even if you do not like its current occupant. The time will come when someone you approve of will hold this office, at which time you will not appreciate this sort of trash talk. Besides which, the president has had nothing to do with this pipeline problem.

(For those of you who rail on Lefties and Progressives, NIMBY stands for Not In My Back Yard, as in everybody wants the benefits to the oil that flows to that refinery, but NOBODY wants the pipeline to run through their neighborhood. Somehow everyone wants to believe that there's a magic slum that lies along a line that stretches between point A and point B that's never a block wide but is ample enough to put all the bad things we don't want to deal with in our back yards.) Ask the Nebraska Governor – the Republican wanted a safer route (or at least one that would be less damaging if it were to break) for the pipeline, got ran over by the House Republican's need to force Obama's hand (and paint him as a Progressive NIMBYite). Now, I do expect Obama to let the pipeline get built once the ducks are put in order, but somehow he's a Progressive NIMBYite because someone wants the pipeline done NOW!
