BP must pay $12 million over bad gasoline

Houston Chronicle -- BP says it has paid more than $12 million in claims arising from a multistate recall of incorrectly formulated gasoline that damaged some vehicles' mechanical components.

BP spokesman Scott Dean tells The Times of Munster those claims were paid after the company processed about 14,000 recall claims.

He says BP is still processing legitimate claims for which it's received documentation. But Dean says several thousand people who've filed claims haven't produced the needed documents or haven't responded to inquiries from the company.

He says some suspected cases of fraudulent claims have been passed on to law enforcement.

BP recalled about 4.7 million gallons of gasoline in August distributed Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin. The fuel caused problems that included hard starting, ...

One would think that there would substantially improve their QC and decision making processes to minimize the frequency and severity of major screw-ups in the Gulf and the chemical composition and formulation of their fuel products...
