Oh dear, oh my, one begins to see why teafortwo appears so confused with each post!
If you want RENEWABLE INDUSTRY hype and hogwash? All you have to is listen to folks like teafortwo and the Civil Society Institute.
As aquarinut CLEARLY points out there are only 7 people at the Civil Society Institute:
1. Pam Solo, Founder and President, Civil Society Institute 2. Gail Pressberg, Senior Program Officer 3. Andrea Pamfilis Camp 4. Matthew Pawa 5. Elyse Rosenblum 6. Frank Smith 7. Corinne Whitlatch
The SEVEN

If you want OIL & GAS industry hype and hogwash? Listen to folks like aquarinut. Below he states:
"Now I can see how they only came up with only 76% of Americans! Article is really nothing more than an opinion piece coming from just a few people (7 to be exact!!!) that are trying to make themselves seem important in their own eyes and to anyone dumb enough to believe them!"
Once again we see how these BIG OIL & GAS spin doctors make stuff up as they go along.
Are you more interested in learning the real facts about this survey? Follow this link to learn more about this civilsocietyinstitute.org survey:
"SURVEY METHODOLOGY
The new survey findings are based on a telephone survey conducted by ORC International among a national probability sample of 1,019 adults comprising 506 men and 513 women 18 years of age and older, living in private households in the continental United States. Interviewing for this survey was completed during the period March 22-25, 2012. The margin of error is plus or minus three percentage points at the full sample size."
For the full survey findings, go to http://www.CivilSocietyInstitute.org on the Web.
Maybe aquarinut can only count up to 7 .... ? ;0}

That's strange the graph clearly shows a precipitous rise in gas prices beginning in 2006, the year Liberals Reid and Pelosi took control of the Senate and House, there's a precipitous fall in the last months of 2008 after President Bush announced an aggressive drilling policy offshore. Then strangely President Obama comes into office enacting his war on oil and oil skyrockets right back close to the spike started by Reid and Pelosi and the Liberals. Coincidence? Hmmm, the people will be the judge.

As chemist74 said: "One can get any result you want by careful wording of the questions."
That seems to be how the BIG GREED industries establish many of their "facts".
By asking about only what they want to hear and want regurgitated by the clueless.
Always interesting how there is always a reference to clean energy costing more?
Cost more than what? More than the burden of a society riddled with cancer & respiratory diseases?
Sure, BIG OIL & GAS create lots of jobs .... in the healthcare industry. Much like BIG TOBACCO.
Lots of cancer. Lots of COPD. Lots of leukemia.
There's an implication that fossil fuels still cost the same as they always have. Hello?
All one needs to do is go to the pump to see just how much fact there is in the assumption that fossil fuel prices are steady.
Look at the real facts. Gas has sky rocketed since we had an oil man in the White House.
Gasoline prices 1993 through 2012
On the up side? There is the pre-oiled shrimp and crab courtesy of BP and BIG OIL :0\

"The majority of us really DO want cleaner and safer air to breath as well as plenty of clean and safe unpolluted water to drink."
"...fossil fuel industries pollute at will ....."
================================================================ EVERY BODY wants clean air and safe water.
When either of the two posters below can find a quote from a credible source that any industry or industry representative has said they don't want clean air or water feel free to show us, until then all you have is misinformation and the ingnorance resulting from that misinformation. Talk about smoke and mirrors LOL!

But NHLF?
The PROFITS are SO much bigger when the fossil fuel industries pollute at will .....
Here is a thought. What if these BIG GREED fossil fuel companies took the BILLIONS of dollars they spend on lobbyists, politicians, "scientists", lawyers, shills and spin doctors and applied all of that money to cleaning up their act instead?

Must be a full moon nearby, as all the diatribers are out in force here.
Too bad they can't accept the 'truth' here.
The majority of us really DO want cleaner and safer air to breath as well as plenty of clean and safe unpolluted water to drink. Is that too much to expect? I don't think so and it is great to see so many others have the same expectations and desires!

One can get any result you want by careful wording of the questions. The real questions should be:
1. How much more are you willing to pay for "clean" energy versus enegy from coal/nuclear power? 2. Are you willing right now to sign a long term contract to buy "clean" power at a rate that much higher than conventional power.
If they say no to question 2 that means they were lying in question 1. If they say yes to question 2, they should be presented a tentative supply contract to sign. If they refure to sign, it means they were lying in question 2.

76% of Americans Want Clean Energy?
So, from this should we conclude that 24% have developed a taste for hydrocarbons, arsenic, heavy metals and smog? That may go a long way to explain some of the posts we see when you consider the neurological effects :0\

Phrase the question that way, and of course, you are going to get a positive response.
Add "and raise your taxes and energy bill to support this effort", and the percent that support clean energy will drop dramatically.

I'm not sure where they get their numbers but this article comes from a "green" and left-leaning website so I wouldn't put much stock in it. I'm not smoking anything. I'm apparently one of the 24% who don't mind the use of nuclear energy and don't want to pay thru the nose for energy, especially for green energy when it can't stand on it's own merits and cost.

FPLREP, you seem to have it right. I, too, wonder how they phrased the question. No doubt that the question itself dictates the answer received.
MusicalMan7 made the point that we would all want clean energy if it were viable.
Sadly, it isn't always viable. So many 'clean' energies are not yet ready to replace those in use today.
