Was surprised to hear they had two refineries there. You would think that would be a plus for the one remaining to be more profitable.

If you're a Tesoro refiner worker then this is bad, but for the rest of the island this is good. If Tesoro cannot make money refining, then it stands to reason that they can import gasoline at a cheaper price. If anything this should lower prices, not raise them.

actually average of 3.48 isn't bad. It's 3.38 here in Florida.

bad for Hawaii, but even worse when the GB "Senior Analyst" cannot correctly use words.
Effects and affects are two different words.

Oil companies want to close refineries so they can have yet another excuse to raise prices.

For decades, the Tesoro refinery kept Chevron in check. Now, all bets are off. Chevron is going to have a field day screwing Hawai'i for every penny it can squeeze out of it.

Prices aren't high enough in Hawaii now?? With this Refinery closing they will go even higher. If this move was to satisfy the Enviromentalists, well I hope the Residents show their Appreciation to them in some way!!!

I could see the value in providing government incentives for keeping more than one refinery open, otherwise if there's a sole provider not only does it create the opportunity for unfettered gouging, but if there are supply disruptions the whole state could come to a standstill.

The Tesoro refinery in the State of Alaska near Nikiski and Kenai produces about 72,000 bbl/d. That gasoline is then piped 60 miles directly to Anchorage where it is stored and then redistributed to all gas stations in Alaska. Since the highway system within Alaska is very limited, all those villages located along the coasts and along the many major rivers must get their gasoline shipped by barges during the 6 months that all the rivers are not frozen. That is a monumental task since the state is so large. The size of Alaska would stretch from Savannah, GA to Evansville, IN, up to Marquette, MI, over to Bismark, ND, down to Tulsa, OK, and then over to Bakersfield, CA. The State of Hawaii is only slightly larger than the Island of Attu at the end of the Aleutian Island chain.

we'll see. I can't see it working too well should the current distribution system go down? Depending on transportation is dangerous.

Yep, here we go, higher prices at the pumps, think they do this just make a bigger profit us consumers. This needs to hault, and get these prices at the pump, to under two dollars a gallon.
