Because Obama vetoed* the Keystone Pipeline down from the Alberta oil fields to our southern refineries, Canada is building a pipeline West to the Pacific to ship their oil to China. Of course, China has been buying up huge amounts of oil (and agricultural) lands in Africa....
*This may change. Now that they all voted for him, the Eco-idealogues may find themselves shafted if Obama thinks he needs the pipeline. Then again, his buddy, tax-cheat Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway owns a big stake in Burlington Northern. They make a lot of money hauling Dakota oil down in their tankers.... Wouldn't want to infringe on Buffet now, Mr. President!

Great, now let us sell them our private sector oil at $200 a barrel and reduce our national debt with the money.

Chinas demand is going to crush American wallets soon. Since China is using more and there economy is improving while ours is in decline we are screwed.

Another reason for us to consume less. China's demand will keep prices high here.

Unfortunately, @goodbuy, only Big Oil would see any of those profits, not you. It's the selling of our domestic oil supplies on the open market which is keeping our gas prices high.

@HawaiianGuy, how do you explain the rampant government spending before November 2008? Wasn't there a little matter of two wars in the Midlle East, the establishment of a bloated Dept of Homeland Security, and the general War on Terror?
Who paid for those purchases on the national credit card?

Don't be so sure about that, @mstearno. You understand that China's "robust" economy is fast decelerating, right? The Walmarts of the world are already sniffing around Vietnam, Burma, and Bangladesh for even cheaper labor. And barring those labor pools, manufacturing is slowly making its way back to America's shores.

@tankumo is correct. China was once also a net oil exporter, too, but their consumption has gobbled up all of that oil. Now, China is going all over the Third World to develop those countries' oil resources, in order to bring that oil back to China.

What do you propose, @drinkingitup? China already has a one-child policy. That's why there are only 1.3 billion Chinese and not 2 billion.

China produces oil just like we do, @hcivic, but demand is fast outstripping supply. Guess they need to start fracking in China, too.

China has money. they can afford it; we can't. after all China is not waging war with the Middle East or anyone else. Wouldn't it be nice if we just keep our military force right here in our own boundary lines instead of scattering them world-wide to protect our 'interest' or to protect the corporation's interests at taxpayers' expense.

And yet, the very vast majority of Chinese can not afford to fill up an average tank full of gas.
