New York City creates "Slow Zones" ...on purpose

GasBuddy Blog -- Anyone who's driven in Manhattan at rush-hour knows the thrill of standing still in bumper-to-bumper taxi and bus traffic, fumes and all. So it's hard not to laugh when you hear that NYC is creating Slow Zones and they're doing it on purpose.

Cynics might also tell you that a 'slow zone' would actually increase your speed.

But NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg says his city's latest traffic innovation is an absolute necessity for the city to lower the frequency and severity of crashes, injuries and fatalities. And, he recognizes that it will reduce cut-through traffic and noise in residential neighborhoods too.

Bloomberg said the slow zones are part of an “assault on the number one traffic killer: speeding.”...

Here in Hesperia, CA, have a trap like that long time ago, and is so blatant that to shame .. Start at main st and i-15 fwy (55 mph) arrive until the eleventh street (35 mph), then i avenue changed to 45mph, and the funny thing is that in the back streets the speed limit is 45 mph, in conclusion, is nothing new....

Why sit in traffic, it doesn't move very fast anyway. The subway can get you there much quicker and easier, without the hassle of driving in a very very crowded city. It's gonna be a NYC Big Apple 'Slow Zone' ...on purpose! Get a Big Gulp, candy bar and large popcorn for the ride home. Do they have billboards and dummies in NYC? Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

We may see higher prices and spot shortages of gasoline. Many refineries (and pipelines) are still down.
