I remember well walking//hitching Home after football and wrestling practice though... Montana in the winter, and never thought twice bout hitchin a ride... different times, great memories!!!

It was be much safer if they were walking not trying to text on their Smart Phones etc It was called a path I walked or road my bike to school on. I guess there are still kick backs when something as such cost 26 million.

Waste of time and money!! The NEW generation of Americans don't walk anywhere. Hell, where I'm from you don't even have to walk to the school bus stop anymore. The bus goes door-to-door picking up and dropping off!!! LAZY SOCIETY WE LIVE IN NOW!!

That has been going on here in Oklahoma for more than a year. I have not noticed an increase of children walking to swachool. Most parents over this nation will not allow their kids to walk to and from school. Although, with all of the out of work parents, they have the time to walk with them.

Its about time kids had to walk a ways to school instead of the bus going up and down every street in town picking up their lazy grasses/ We home owners has to flip the bill for the fuel and up keep of the buses.

Spending our sacred tax dollars to get our children to risk less safe ways to get to and from school. Typical liberal idea!

NY DOT invests $26.5 million to promote biking & walking to school? Only in areas that need something like this, less walking on busy roads and in heavy traffic areas. More walking, bicycling and less riding the bus from home door to school door. More excerise for those fat kids! The school buses routes I have seen, the children have to walk very little and are mostly driven from home to school, with very little walking inbetween. How much to implement this program? Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!

I am a biker and support more biking by our kids, but I would have lots of questions about this expenderature of tax payer dollars.

That's a lot of fat people (including kids) out there, too! So it's time to get off your fat behinds and away from TVs and mobile devices and get some exercise.

They didn't have to spend 26.5 million to get us to walk to school.....
Maybe they will start handing out bikes with obumer phones.
