In Europe, gender-neutral insurance pricing goes into effect

GasBuddy Blog -- A European court ruling has gone into effect that bans gender-based insurance pricing, an equalizing measure which auto insurers say will inflate costs for women across the European Union, who are traditionally charged less than men.

EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding said the ruling was a civil rights issue, calling it “an important moment for gender equality in the European Union.”

She even went so far as to say "It is now clear that an insurance company must not distinguish between women and men; all customers must be treated equally. This is a matter of respect for fundamental rights. It is now also becoming a matter of good business practices."

To be fair Insurance must be based on Risk Factors. And the important Risk Factors depend on the type of Insurance. For instance, the major Risk Factor in Life Insurance is Age. In houses a major risk factor is type of Construction. In Driver Insurance a major Risk Factor is Age and Sex. Another Risk Factor is whether or not the driver drinks Alcoholic beverages. The judge's ruling is unjust. He has ordered that a major risk factor be ignored. Auto Insurance companies should jack up the premiums on the insurance for judges like him because he is unpredictable and unfair to safer drivers.

I could be wrong but it seems like women spend more time on the phone while driving then men.
