Damage at Phiilips66 Bayway refinery could prolong northeast's gas crisis

GasBuddy Blog -- According to the utility companies in New York and New Jersey, power is being restored and significant progress is being made with each passing day. Why then, do we still see gas lines?

Because, the severity of the storm damage to area refineries has reduced their output to just 58.5 percent of capacity. And that may be the lowest level of east coast refinery output recorded in many years.

Apparently, damage sustained by Sandy at the Phillips 66 Bayway refinery in NJ was more extensive than the company had initially discussed.

When Sandy came ashore last week, the Bayway Refinery in Linden, N.J. took on 12 feet of salt water, according to Rich Johnson, a spokesman for Phillips 66, the refinery’s parent company...

Images of people filling their cars, gas cans, and anything they have- is making this situation much worse than it would otherwise be. There is no gas shortage. There's simply various kinks in the supply chain as power is restored. Demand for gasoline is significant today, and with the kinks in the system, supply is being overwhelmed by an insatiable demand from motorists and consumers. Instead of exporting all the fuel that Big Oil does, bring some of that fuel to the east coast and supply your own countries population. But will they do that? NO! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!
