That doesn't sound so outrageous to me.

Tell your wife that the invite was bona fide, but there is a caveat. Notice should be given, because I am rarely at our TN home. It's a long story, but my spouse is mentoring two of our children through college in Tennessee and I am a single parent here in Florida most of the time. It's only about a 7 hr to 8 hr drive, although I have made the trip in 2.5 hrs in my friend's plane. She will be coming down with my daughter in about a week or two (Spring Break). If you like snow, the landscape is adorned with that white fluffy stuff 3 to 4 times each winter. The summers are busy for us because we entertain folks from Florida a lot, but a great time to visit TN. Thanksgiving season is the only unpredictable time for us. We had a family reunion (of sorts) this year in TN, but we rented a vacation home in Oak Ridge because there was a greater turnout than expected. Next year we are thinking about having a location where travel will be easier for the troops (Continued)

Page two: (I have kids in Colorado, Texas, TN., and Florida) I'll check on storefront rentals to see how expensive they are. I should know more about that, but I'm more of a FL boy.

Tennessee has very low property taxes in many if not most counties. This was a big attraction to us, but might be overthrown by some of the more progressive counties where property taxes are higher. These have advantages and disadvantages; especially whenever trying to sell real estate. It takes longer to sell and you will not see much appreciation in value compared to places where taxes are higher. States and counties are having difficulty managing budgets and typically resort to sales tax as a means of adding revenue. Depending on the time of year, we would love for you and your family to visit in order to get a feel for the area. I believe that Chattanooga has much more charm than Atlanta. Our drive to Chatty takes about 45 minutes, so we enjoy shopping there but also have the quiet of the "small town". Don't rule out Miss. or Alabama. Both would be considered "business friendly" compared to California.. Good luck and keep in touch.

Why not Texas? No state income tax, although from what I've heard the property taxes are fairly high. Main thing I pay is the 8.25% sales tax in most jurisdictions. (6.25% state, 2% city.) Most mail order places seem to have a Texas nexus ( has a warehouse, and Apple has an Apple Store in all the major Houston malls, along with a large operation in Austin) so I automatically get taxed on stuff I buy from them.

Is your company leasing space in California or do you own real property? If you own, you might wanna consider selling before the big boys pull the plug. Me thinks that we are ripe for another fleecing. If you peddle books online, location is not such a major concern for shipping purposes, is it? When we were looking for a new location other than Florida, we settled on TN, because (like FL) there was no state income tax and we were within a one day drive to two thirds of the U.S. population. This was important b/c my wife publishes and distributes books and taught seminars at Home School events. I have two children (& spouses) in Colorado, but my son says that many are emigres from California. Then again, Colorado is considering a split into two states, too, so you can select the least repressive. I like Arizona because they seen to stand up to the FED best; especially concerning problems with illegals. Good luck in your search.

Yeah. If Nevada will save that much money for your company, move there and help defeat Harry Reid in 2016 or wait until California splits into six states and re-locate in the most "tax and regulation free" state. SA
