West Coast pain at pump easing, Great Lakes gets opposite

GasBuddy Blog -- In recent days, the pain at the pump has certainly eased on the West Coast. Average gasoline prices in California, Oregon, and Washington are down 10c/gal in the last week- great news for motorists there.

Meanwhile, taking a trip up Route 66 would yield rising prices near the end of the road in Chicago, IL, and the rest of Great Lakes states where wholesale costs are at their highest since April 23, as Marathon's Wood River, IL refinery outside St. Louis, performs maintenance earlier than expected. Another issue at a Marathon facility in Kentucky on June 4 may also be playing a role, as a failed pump resulted in a partial shut down of that Marathon facility.

So why did the gas prices in Minnesota go up and stay there? We have our own refinery and it is running. I think it is more of another lame excuse for jacking up profits for themselves.

A month later -- PD finally right for Oregon. Only because the politicians are finally putting pressure on the oil companies (or telling them to cool it and taking their checks).

dropping toward the 3.00 mark (3.16 at one station, most around 3.22 - 3.25) for regular gasoline.

Diesel? Different story. Still 3.75 - 3.99. For no reason but greed.

As the refineries come back online the price should be again we need government regulation of the gas industry they have gone haywire and the Democratic administration is supporting this

It's $3.89 at the Costco in Kennewick, WA, and $3.70's in Spokane, you just have to cross the Cascades to get better prices :-P

How about stopping this post -- it's useless and not factual regarding our West Coast pain relief -- PD, go out and find gas for less than $4.

Why is Marathon performing maintenance at peak season? Because it drives the price up, that's why.

We in AR are closer to OK refineries yet our prices are rising. Is this is sympathy for the pain in Marathon Land over the KY & MO shutdowns?
Maybe not!

Seems hard to believe that routine maintenance on a refinery could really make that kind of impact. Probably just the market speculators getting rich.

This is, once again, as most everyone has said, redundant. Old news re-runs seem to be becoming the norm lately!
